Student's Division 3 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
I think is crucial to have or develop a student's division within the SCPA. That will give us an opportunity to share ideas, concerns, and ask questions related to the profession. Maybe it is time to think about this and maybe start looking or invite other students to think about it and maybe create that division.

It has been very surprising to me that no other students have replied to my post. In order for us to be heard, to explore and express our concerns about the profession, to share ideas, to talk about what we don't learn in school that it is out there in the "real" world, we have to find a "safe" place to do so and I think that if we unite and organize a student's division we will have tha place for all the above. I'm sure there are more graduate students out there that are not aware of this interest and I encourage other colleagues to inform them about this interest. This site and new forum is a great opportunity to express ourselves.

Jose,

I agree that the Forum within this site is an excellent resource that students can use to great benefit. i suspect that perhaps the reason there have been no replies so far is, the students don't know this exists.

Perhaps some direct outreach to the students in our organization is needed. Perhaps Tracy can provide their email addresses to you, so that you can reach out to them with a link to the SCPA site, where they can register?

Dr. Sullivan:
Thanks for taking your time to read my post and reply to it. I was just thinking about contacting Tracy for that information. I will keep you posted about this since I feel it is crucial to have that in our state association.

Ben,
I agree that it would be very helpful. The transition from newly graduated to licensed professional is difficult at best. I'm not even sure how one goes about gaining a post doc in SC and I'm sure that I am not the only one in this situation. A student division would be helpful in setting up mentoring programs and guidance on how to become a licensed member of the psychological community in SC. Let me know your ideas on how to organize such a group and maybe we can brainstorm some ways to pull other students into the mix.

Karen:
Thanks for replying. My name is Jose, bennrod is the loggin ID here. I agree with you and that's why I want to get feedback from students to try to organize this for us (students) and new professionals. We need some guidance, mentoring (as you mentioned) and what better place that within our State Association. We can trade emails and be in touch so we can talk more about this. Are you going to the activity on Dec. 5th.
